Cech heaps praise on Drogba

Thursday, February 25th, 2010

From what Petr Cech has been saying in the aftermath of Saturday’s 2-0 victory over Wolves, it would be safe to assume that the Chelsea keeper is extremely pleased that Didier Drogba is his team-mate and not an opponent.

Cech has piled the praise on the in-form striker after his two goals secured the points at Molineux and moved Chelsea four points clear at the top of the table.

Real Madrid legend tips Benzema for success

Thursday, February 25th, 2010

Any player in world football would welcome a word or two of praise from former Real Madrid midfielder Zinedine Zidane. The France legend is one of the greatest players of all time, so his opinion is going to be listened to with interest.

With this in mind, current Madrid striker Karim Benzema will be delighted that Zidane believes he can become a star at the Bernabeu in the coming years. The former Lyon man has had a relatively slow start to his career at Madrid, so these positive words will be more than welcomed.

Collingwood the obvious choice for vice-captaincy role

Monday, February 22nd, 2010

Paul Collingwood has been selected as vice-captain for the upcoming tour of Bangladesh. The England Twenty20 leader will assist temporary captain Alistair Cook as he leads the team in the absence of the rested Andrew Strauss.

England will play two Tests and three One Day Internationals in Bangladesh, starting with the first ODI on February 28th. Collingwood will play second fiddle to Cook during these matches.

This means that Collingwood will become Test or ODI captain should Cook be injured at any point during the tour. This is one reason why Collingwood was the only choice for the vice-captaincy role.

Zola heaps praise on Diamanti as West Ham move on up

Monday, February 22nd, 2010

West Ham United boss Gianfranco Zola singled out Alessandro Diamanti for praise following the crucial 3-0 victory over relegation rivals Hull City on Saturday.

Goals from Valon Behrami, Carlton Cole and Julian Faubert secured the points over a Hull side that were reduced to nine men by the end of the game. However, it was Diamanti that everyone was talking about after the match.

There was a buzz around Upton Park every time he touched the ball and he very nearly scored a spectacular goal, trying his luck against Tigers keeper Boaz Myhill from inside his own half. In fairness, it would have been nothing more than his performance deserved.

Everton determined to keep hold of Rodwell

Monday, February 22nd, 2010

David Moyes has insisted that Everton are a big enough club to hold on to Jack Rodwell for a long time to come. The 18-year-old played a starring role in the victory over Manchester United on Saturday and is tipped to go on to big things.

Rodwell has become a first team regular at Goodison Park and some have suggested that the club will sell their star youngster, much like they did Wayne Rooney back in 2004.

Australian fast bowler Brett Lee may never play international cricket again after his latest injury setback. The 33-year-old had elbow surgery in December and has since been ruled out for the entire Australian summer.

Despite admitting he could have bowled his last ball for his country, Lee is remaining upbeat. According to the player, if his international career is over, he will look back with satisfaction on what he has achieved.
